Human Organ System

Human excretory system

The main excretory organs include kidney, ureter, urinary bladder and urethra. Kidneys filter the blood and urine is the filtrate obtained. Urine passes to the urinary bladder via ureter and is expelled out
of the body. This is known as micturition.

Kidneys

Kidneys are the main organ of the human excretory system. Also, every individual has a pair of kidneys. They are located one on each side of the spine at the level of the liver.

Ureters

There is one ureter that comes out of each kidney as an extension of the renal pelvis. It is a thin muscular tube that carries urine from the kidneys to the bladder.

Urethra

The urethra is a tube that arises from the urinary bladder. Its function is to expel the urine outside by micturition.

Urinary Bladder

The bladder is a sac-like structure. And a smooth muscle layer lines it. It stores the urine until micturition.

What is the process of excretion?
Excretion is a general term referring to the separation and throwing off of waste materials or toxic substances from the cells and tissues of a plant or animal. The separation, elaboration, and elimination of certain products arising from cellular functions in multicellular organisms is called secretion.
